LAWRENCE — Kansas women’s golf is competing in the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2014.

The Jayhawks came in off of a victory during the NCAA Columbus Regional, the program’s first NCAA regional title. They were led by Lyla Louderbaugh, who captured the program’s first medalist honors at a NCAA regional, too. The momentum the team has, guided by fourth-year coach Lindsay Kuhle, is hard to miss.

Will that translate into even more success for Kansas during the NCAA Championship? Will the bar continue to be set even higher for the Jayhawks moving forward? The NCAA Championship underway, and is scheduled to run May 16-21 in Carlsbad, California.

Kansas shot 297 (+9) as a team during the opening round of the event. The Jayhawks saw Lauren Clark lead the way with an even-par 72, while Ebba Nordstedt wasn't far behind with a 73 (+1). That put KU at tied for 21st as a team, with Clark tied for 27th individually and Nordstedt tied for 46th.

"We had a really great round going," Kansas coach Lindsay Kuhle said in a KU release. "Then the wind picked up a bit, and I think it threw us off our rhythm. We didn't finish strong, and it was definitely a disappointing end, especially knowing how well we were playing all day. But I think this will make us hungry going into tomorrow and help us come in with a strong mindset."

Kuhle added: "We're definitely not out of it. We can get it back and play with confidence tomorrow. If you can have five players playing well, that can make a great team score. We'll look for that the next two days as we compete for a national championship."
