Manahawkin, NJ – Adam Nevius, 49, of Manahawkin, was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison for Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition.

The Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P., also ordered Nevius to pay $594,607.25 in restitution to his victims on May 3.

A comprehensive investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Squad uncovered that Nevius and his wife, Kimberly Atkinson, 55, operated Coastal Restorations of New Jersey, LLC. Between September 1, 2014, and June 16, 2017, Nevius, on behalf of Coastal Restoration, entered contracts with 17 victim homeowners and two subcontractors for repairs. Despite receiving almost $700,000, little to no work was done, with funds instead used for personal benefit.

On March 29, 2024, Adam Nevius was extradited to New Jersey after being taken into custody in Lafayette, Indiana by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department on March 14. Nevius failed to appear in court on August 25, 2023, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.

Kimberly Atkinson faced charges for Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition and Theft by Deception on April 2, 2019. While Nevius exonerated Atkinson during his guilty plea on June 19, 2023, her charges were dismissed by Judge Ryan at Nevius’ sentencing.

Various law enforcement agencies and units, including the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and local police departments, were commended by Prosecutor Billhimer for their collaborative assistance, which led to Nevius’ guilty plea and subsequent state prison sentence.
