"Satan Shoes" has got us all talking, and maybe that was the point?

After 2020, nothing seems to surprise us anymore. Lil Nas X in collaboration with MSCHF, a Brooklyn-based sneaker company, created "Satan Shoes" and sold out the custom Nike Air Max 97s in one minute on Monday. That's 665 pairs at $1,018 a POP, according to Entertainment Weekly.

There may be many problems surrounding the "Satan Shoes" sneaker, but the main problem is with Nike.

"Nike filed a trademark infringement and dilution complaint against MSCHF today related to the Satan Shoes," a spokesperson said. "We don't have any further details to share on pending legal matters. However, we can tell you we do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF. The Satan Shoes were produced without Nike's approval or authorization, and Nike is in no way connected with this project."

MSCHF reminds us just a year ago they rolled out the "Jesus Shoes" which sold for a godly fortune at $1425, with no lawsuit filed by Nike.

In an official statement (and no doubt delivered via red copy), MSCHF noted, "Over a year ago we released the Jesus Shoes. As a manifested speculative artwork Jesus Shoes conflates celebrity collab culture and brand worship with religious worship into a limited edition line of art objects. Last week’s release of the Satan Shoes, in collaboration with Lil Nas X, was no different ... We were delighted to work with Lil Nas X on Satan Shoes and continue this dialogue."

Nike's lawsuit has ceased sales on the "Satan Shoes" as well as Lil Nas X's giveaway on Twitter, although, many of the shoes sold on Monday may have already been fulfilled; so don't be surprised if you see these bad boys walking down the street or selling on eBay. Whether you agree with the "Satan Shoes" or not, we're talking about this now, and perhaps that's what MSCHF wanted all along?
