Norfolk Christian’s girls gained the No. 1 seeding in Division II for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association basketball playoffs, which start Tuesday.

Numerous boys and girls teams from Hampton Roads were among the 92 invited from across the Commonwealth. They are split among four boys brackets with 12 teams apiece and four girls brackets — 12 each in Divisions I, II and III and eight in D-IV, the tournament for schools with the lowest enrollment.

In all divisions, the quarterfinals are Wednesday, the semifinals Friday and the championship games Saturday. Higher seeds will host through the quarterfinals, and the semifinals and title games will be held in Benedictine’s gym in Richmond for boys and at Longwood University’s arena for girls.

Girls Division II: Norfolk Christian’s TCIS champion Ambassadors and third-seeded Hampton Roads Academy gained byes to the quarterfinals and will play home games Wednesday. Norfolk Collegiate took the last spot and will travel to Charlottesville to face No. 5 Covenant at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls Division I: TCIS runner-up Catholic was seeded second and will be at home Wednesday.

Girls Division III: No. 5 Greenbrier Christian and No. 8 Hampton Christian will play home first-round games Tuesday, while No. 11 Portsmouth Christian will travel.

Girls Division IV: This bracket doesn’t start play until Wednesday, when No. 6 Denbigh Baptist will travel to Caroline County to play No. 3 Carmel.

Boys Division I: Catholic, unseeded in a stacked field, will go to Richmond to face No. 7 St. Christopher’s at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys Division II: Peninsula Catholic, which shared a conference title for the first time this century, captured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. Tuesday, Norfolk Collegiate, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and Atlantic Shores will play road games.

Boys Division III: Portsmouth Christian, the sixth seed, will play host to Blessed Sacrament Huguenot, located in Powhatan County, for a 6 p.m. game Tuesday.

Boys Division IV: Hampton Christian took a first-round bye as the third seed. No. 6 Denbigh Baptist will travel there for a quarterfinal Wednesday if the Minutemen win a Tuesday home game in Newport News against Lynchburg-area Timberlake Christian.
