LAME DEER, Mont. – A curfew is now in effect on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation following an incident that occurred on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. An executive order was issued by Northern Cheyenne Tribal President Serena Wetherelt on October 24, outlining a reservation-wide lockdown. The executive order, effective from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. nightly, remains in place until further notice. During this time, anyone out in public may be subject to questioning. The Northern Cheyenne Tribe is encouraging those with information about the incident to contact the following resources: BIA/OJS Law Enforcement at 406-477-6288, NCIS at 406-477-7100, or message the Northern Cheyenne Investigative Services Facebook page . According to a report from Northern Cheyenne Investigative Services, a shooting occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, in the west side housing area. Residents were advised to remain indoors. The public is asked to report any unusual activity to the Northern Cheyenne Police Department at 406-477-6288. Additionally, Northern Cheyenne Investigative Services is urging residents in the west side of Lame Deer to review their home surveillance cameras. If footage or information is found, residents are advised to contact Northern Cheyenne dispatch at 406-477-6289. Northern Cheyenne Disaster & Emergency Services echoed this request on October 24, emphasizing the need for surveillance footage, particularly from the west side. Officials are also on the lookout for a red jeep potentially related to the incident. Anyone who believes they may have witnessed anything potentially related to the incident is advised to contact law enforcement, or reach out to any Tribal Council.
