STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A man and woman were caught with a loaded gun and ecstasy pills in a parking lot at Faber Park in Port Richmond, authorities allege.

Shawn Morris, 37, of Stockton Street in Rahway, New Jersey, was behind the wheel and Karerja Gonzalez, 36, of Rumpler Court in Port Richmond, was a passenger in a black, 2018 BMW 530i when they were apprehended on Richmond Terrace between Faber Street and Sharpe Avenue at 11:27 p.m. on April 17, according to the criminal complaint.

Police were responding to a ShotSpotter activation in the area when they caught the defendants with their alleged contraband in the parking lot at Faber Park, according to multiple law-enforcement sources.

The arrest was touted on the X feed for Patrol Borough Staten Island.

Inside the BMW, officers found a black, 9 mm Glock pistol loaded with an attached magazine containing nine bullets and a second magazine stocked with nine bullets, the complaint alleges.

Officers allege they confiscated 67 multi-colored pills of ecstasy.

The criminal complaint states that the defendants were apprehended in “a sensitive location, namely, the public parking lot of a public park.”

Situated on the banks of the Kill Van Kull, Faber Park is a popular daytime destination for families with children.

“With playgrounds, courts, a skate park, an outdoor swimming pool, Faber Park offers Staten Islanders a place to enjoy the outdoors at the waterfront,” according to the city Parks Department website.

The defendants have been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, rifle or shotgun in a sensitive location, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition.
