HOUGHTON LAKE — Pine River improved its record to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Highland with a pair of wins over Houghton Lake, 16-4 and 12-0.

“Our bats were really going today and that was good to see,” Pine River coach Mike Nelson said. “It was nice to get Mary Nichols back in the field, too. She made some nice plays in center field.”

Kylee Mumby got the win in the opener, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out 12.

At the plate, Emily Felsk had two hits and three RBIs; Emma Burns three hits, including a double; Sabrina Cutler three hits and an RBI; Nichols three hits and three RBIs; and Casey Proctor two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.

Sadler Mumby got the win in game two, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out four.

At the plate, Cutler had three hits and three RBIs; Felsk two hits and an RBI; Kylee Mumby three hits and an RBI; Nichols three hits and two RBIs; and Burns two hits and an RBI.

Pine River hosts its tournament on Saturday.

MCBAIN — McBain dropped a pair of non-league games to Frankfort, 10-2 and 14-1.

Emerson Tossey took the loss in the opener for the Ramblers.

At the plate, Olivia Peterson had a hit; Tossey two hits and an RBI; and Briella Walenjus an RBI.

Katelyn DeZeeuw took the loss in game two. At the plate, Shannon Maloney had a hit; Karsyn Meyering two hits and an RBI; Brecken Gilde a hit; Peterson two hits; Tossey a hit; and Aubrie Kamphouse a hit.

HOUGHTON LAKE — Pine River picked up a pair of Highland wins, beating Houghton Lake 18-2 and 14-2.

“We hit the ball well today,” Pine River coach Shawn Ruppert said. “I thought our pitching was the best it’s been, too.

“Some of young guys are really making progress. Once we start getting more consistent games in, I think we will be fine.”

Xander Martin got the win in the opener, allowing two earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out five.

At the plate, Martin had a hit and two RBIs; Nate Marks a hit; Braeden Larr an RBI; Cash Wheeler three hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs; Kaiden Hubble a hit and an RBI; Jericho Holmes a double and two RBIs; and John Jacobs two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

Larr got the win in the nightcap, allowing on earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out three in four innings of work.

At the plate, Martin had two hits and two RBIs; Marks a hit and two RBIs; Cash Wheeler two hits and two RBIs; JJ Dean a hit; Holmes a hit; Jacobs a hit and two RBIs; and Carter Magnan a hit and an RBI.

Pine River hosts its tournament on Saturday.

CADILLAC — Northern Michigan Christian tied for fourth, Manton took eighth and McBain 10th in the Mid Michigan Golf Conference Jamboree at Briar South at Lakewood.

Clare won the event with a 342 while Gladwin shot a 344, Houghton Lake 345, the Comets a 357, the Rangers a 412 and the Ramblers 496.

Emmitt Baas paced NMC with an 87, while Blair DeZeeuw shot a 90 while Dries VanNoord 91 and Titus Johns 92.

Lincoln Hicks paced Manton with a 94 while Spencer Bartlett shot a 103, Ava Traxler 105 and Jack Bartlett 110.

“I am very pleased with how all of the kids played,” Manton coach Jeff Sinkel said. “Spencer and Ava really stepped it up to shoot a solid score on a beautiful and tough course.

“Lincoln continues to play very good golf.”

Cason Witbeck paced McBain with a 112 while Braeden Ransom shot a 119, Kade Weaver 128 and Austin Feriend 137.

ELK RAPIDS — Cadillac shot a team score of 345 to take seventh at the Elk Rapids Invitational at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort.

Traverse City Central took first with a 304 while the host Elks shot a 321 and Traverse City St. Francis a 321.

Noah Traviss placed 10th as an individual with a 79 while Joey Schafer shot an 86, Kasen Dunn 89 and Keegan McRoberts 91.

MESICK — Lake City beat Mesick 198-222 in a dual match at Antioch Hills.

“It was a very night of golf but we will take it,” Lake City coach Travis Hubbard said.

“We did enough to win on a course that none of our kids had ever played.”

Landen Herrick paced the Trojans with a 44.

Lake City hosts the annual Terry Thompson Memorial Invitational Friday at Missaukee Golf Club.
