Tis' the season!

There's a reason why the holidays are such a wonderful time for proposals. Between a background of beautiful decor and holiday parties that are often full of loved ones, it feels like any given weekend during the holiday season can be the perfect stage for a fairytale proposal. At the same time, holidays only happen once a year, and proposals (hopefully) only happen once, so it's worthwhile to give this event the care, mindfulness, and intentionality that it deserves!

Let's take a look at some of the things you can take into consideration to make your holiday proposal into a magical journey towards happily ever after

Location, Location, Location

One of the most underappreciated parts of the holiday season is the countless festive art installations—along with the many other ways in which otherwise unassuming places put up magical decorations. As a result, you probably live within driving distance of a light display or indoor art installation that would make the perfect vista for your proposal. Denver, in particular, has all sorts of picture-perfect backdrops that run the length of the city, from the yearly displays at the Botanical Gardens to the Mile High Christmas Tree in LoDo proper.

That said, popping the question in front of a mall Santa while you've got two dozen impatient families waiting in line behind you probably isn't a moment you want defining your relationship.

Once you've found a place you think will make for a magical proposal, it doesn't hurt to visit it a few times with friends in order to get a sense of how you'd like the event to play out. Make sure to reach out to whichever organization currently runs the space too, whether it's an event company or the owners of the building it's hosted in. Telling these people you plan to propose there could get you exclusive access or perks—especially if you plan to record it!

Make Sure to Actually Synch Up Schedules

Here's an understatement: the holidays are a stressful time.

Here's another one: people travel during the holidays.

One of the factors that make the holidays so uniquely suited for magical proposals is that all of your visiting friends and family can be easy to gather in a single place for the event. A major drawback to this, however, is that it requires the scheduling headache of getting all of your visiting friends and family into the same place for a single event. If you want a visual representation of what that's usually like, imagine herding cats in a wheelbarrow.

Getting everyone to attend a holiday proposal requires a good deal of pre-planning, especially if you want to keep it a surprise for your significant other. So, it's a good idea to pick a date as early as you can, and let everyone know to give them time to mark their calendars. While you don't have to give them the exact details, it's usually a good idea to mention how important it is in order to avoid the risks of people accidentally double-booking.

Have You Considered Holiday Jewelry?

Personalizing your wedding bands (or engagement rings!) is a great way to show your partner that you appreciate all of the unique little nuances of your relationship. If you're planning to make the holidays extra magical by proposing, then why not include some holiday imagery in the jewelry that you'll be using to propose? In addition to looking cute (who doesn't like snowflakes designs?), it also serves as a good reminder for everything that makes both your holidays and your relationship so special.
