WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – There is a place in Wichita where you can get a hot drink while helping the youth in the area learn valuable job skills.

The Advanced Learning Library is now the home of the Legacy CoffeeWorks pop-up cafe.

Wichita Mayor Lily Wu says the cafe aims to empower high school students through personal growth, community, and employment.

“I believe deep in my soul that most of us want to connect, want to support each other, we want to organize and stand up for each other to live better, healthier lives. This opportunity for us is one small step in that direction, and the impact has truly been felt,” said Legacy CoffeeWorks Program Director Rowdy Wend.

The cafe employs high school students to build their resume, confidence, and a sense of belonging. Kids can apply on its website, and every applicant is guaranteed an interview.

“We use a social enterprise framework to give local teenagers and young adults a space to thrive, discover themselves and who they want to become. And we create a safe space to form healthy, meaningful, positive relationships,” said Wend.

In addition to the cafe, LegacyWorks also offers a GardenWorks and PotteryWorks program.

The cafe is open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through the end of February.
