SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals are scheduled to open the 2025 Texas League baseball season Friday night against Wichita.

The question is will Mother Nature let the Double AA season begin.

Rain and possible thunderstorms are in the forecast.

The Springfield Cardinals have been in town since Sunday, getting ready for the season.

They’re supposed to play the first of a three game home stand against the Wind Surge.

Springfield general manager Dan Reiter is an old hand at dealing with the weather.

He says the team has been having internal discussions on possible changes to the plan.

But as of now the game is on for 6:30 p.m.

“Really we have to see how it develops. Probably early afternoon Friday at the earliest just to make sure we’re not cutting ourselves short. But we do know how many people have tickets. It’s opening day. It’s disheartening for everyone if you don’t have opening day. But we still want to do what’s right. And ultimately one of the requirements with Major League baseball is if you can play baseball, you do play baseball,” said Springfield General Manager Dan Reiter.
