American rock singer Rick Springfield has revealed that he recently discovered he suffered brain damage from a stage fall in 2000. Although the incident occurred 25 years ago, Springfield only found out about the true extent of his injury when he undertook an MRI to learn more about his body. The event occurred at a show in Las Vegas and also caused Springfield physical damage to his wrist. “I fell 25 feet, hit my head, and then wood came down and hit my head, and then my head hit the stage again,” Springfield said in a new interview to People . “I thought I had just broken my wrist, but on the scan I found out I have some brain damage from the fall, so I’m working on trying to repair that.” Springfield also explained that he was relieved to discover he had brain damage, explaining that his father was the opposite, which led to him dying in potentially preventable circumstances. “My dad died from not wanting to know,” the ‘Jessie’s Girl’ singer continued. “He thought he had stomach cancer for years and never got it checked out. When he finally collapsed one day at home, they found out it was an ulcer that burst, and he died from the loss of blood. It could have been fixed if he had gotten it checked out.” He then stated how his father’s death was a “giant message” which made him willing to be prepared to receive “some bad news every now and then”, adding, “I could find out I have terminal cancer tomorrow and be dead in a year, but I can only do all I can do.” Springfield has a busy schedule ahead of him in 2025, performing in arenas across North America until October, including a headline date at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 27th, 2025.
