PHOENIX — A man is in custody after a shooting left a security guard injured at a north Scottsdale hospital on Sunday.

How did the north Scottsdale hospital shooting happen?



The suspect was brought in by a relative to seek treatment at the hospital, according to police.

The incident happened in the emergency room after an argument escalated between the suspect and the security guard, according to a spokesperson for Scottsdale police.

When police arrived, the suspect was being held down by hospital security and staff, authorities said.

The security guard was shot in his upper body, his condition is unknown and he was transferred to another hospital, police said.

This was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to police.

The hospital remains safe and open to the public. A handgun was found at the scene and was turned over to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
