The West North Avenue Development Authority recently awarded millions in grant funding for its 15-year revitalization strategy to transform the corridor, and Sen. Antonio Hayes joined “The C4 and Bryan Nehman Show” on Tuesday to discuss. Among the new projects awarded are housing development opportunities in the Coppin Heights, Easterwood and Mondawmin neighborhoods, as well as local businesses opening storefronts in Druid Heights and Penn North communities. “We are building on that West-North avenue and making sure businesses are welcome and residents feel safe,” Hayes said. The West North Avenue Development Authority was enacted in 2021 through legislation to encourage economic growth in West Baltimore. “We have individuals out there that we have hired from the community that’s out there cleaning up every day,” he said. “There’s probably about 12 communities that connect to North Avenue, but North Avenue is the front door.”
