This is a daily list of top performers from Springfield-area high school sports teams for Jan. 20-25, compiled from information provided to The State Journal-Register by coaches, athletic directors and team statisticians.

Girls Basketball



Anna Weber, Pleasant Plains: The junior forward poured in 21 points in a 53-21 win over Pawnee to advance to the Sangamon County Tournament championship game on Thursday at 7 p.m. Bailey Leach and Madison Burke contributed nine and seven points, respectively. The Cardinals will meet Wednesday’s winner between Auburn and Athens.

Kaitlyn Reels, Carlinville: The junior sank four 3-pointers and finished with 26 points in Carlinville’s 68-42 victory over North Mac in the semifinals of the Macoupin County Tournament. Isabella Tiburzi had 16 points as Carlinville advanced to the championship game to meet Staunton at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Sam Anderson, Staunton: The senior guard drained four 3-pointers and notched 14 points to lift Staunton past Gillespie 42-32 in the semifinals of the Macoupin County Tournament. Lilly Bandy added 12 points.

Lauren Bailey/Ellie Borrowman, Mount Olive: Bailey had 19 points, five rebounds, and four steals and Borrowman pulled down 15 rebounds, scored nine points, and had four steals in the Wildcats’ 47-19 victory over Bunker Hill at the Macoupin County Tournament. Mount Olive plays Piasa Southwestern for fifth place at 4:30 on Thursday.

Marlie Deerwester, Niantic Sangamon Valley/Buffalo Tri-City: The sophomore hit five 3s and engineered a team-high 17 points in a 49-44 win over Riverton in the Sangamon County Tournament consolation bracket. Lily Evens scored six of her 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Jordyn Durham, Riverton: The senior scored a game-high 19 points in the loss to Sangamon Valley.

Boys Basketball



Drake Howard, Taylorville: The senior guard supplied 16 points and the Tornadoes defeated Roxana 53-29 at the Rick McGraw Invitational in Litchfield. Senior Baron Odam contributed 10 points.

Nathan Matoush, Hillsboro: The senior shooting guard hit a pair of 3-pointers, went 10-for-12 on free throws, and racked up 30 points, but the Hilltoppers were beaten by Greenville 60-56 at the Rick McGraw Invitational. Junior guard Tony White finished with 15.

Nate Schaake, Litchfield: The senior center scored 14 points in Litchfield’s 67-53 loss to Bethalto Civic Memorial at the Rick McGraw Invitational. Brayden Ronco and Martavious Jones scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Bryson Mossman, Jacksonville Routt: The junior guard totaled 28 points in a 50-36 win over Griggsville-Perry.

Owen Paluska, South County: The junior guard tallied 15 points and visiting South County defeated Pawnee 39-31. Senior Bishop McDannald added 11 points.

Carson Wort, Pawnee: The senior guard netted a game-high 17 points in Pawnee’s loss to South County.

Aydin Littig/Gabriel Molloy, New Berlin: The duo combined for five 3-pointers and 31 points in New Berlin’s 56-41 victory over Sangamon Valley/Tri-City at Buffalo. Littig had 19 points and three 3-pointers and Molloy made two treys and scored 12.

Boys Basketball



Lanphier 65, Waukegan 61: Lanphier erased a nine-point halftime deficit and senior guard JaiQuan Holman scored a game-high 31 points in the finale of the MLK Showcase at Lober-Nika Gymnasium.

Holman finished 10-for-23 from the field and made 10 of 11 free throws. He scored 11 straight points and his 3-pointer with 4 minutes, 5 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter gave Lanphier a 56-55 lead, an advantage it wouldn’t relinquish.

The Lions trailed 41-32 at intermission before outscoring Waukegan 16-6 in the third period for a 48-47 lead heading into the fourth. Torioun Rice made 4 of 5 shots and scored 12 and Amari Anderson chipped in 10 points for Lanphier (13-8).

Antonio Granville went 10-for-16 from the floor and recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds for Waukegan (15-5), which held a 36-22 rebounding advantage over the Lions.

Metamora 58, Sacred Heart-Griffin 51: The Redbirds went into halftime with a 32-17 lead and defeated the Cyclones in a rematch of the Class 3A state championship game from the 2021-22 season.

Terrion Wallace made two 3-pointers and led SHG with 14 points, and Zion Lee hit three treys, scored 13, and grabbed six rebounds. Myles Montgomery chipped in 11 points.

Metamora’s Matthew Zobrist led all scorers with 18 points, including three 3s. Jonah Funk had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

SHG defeated Metamora 53-50 in two overtimes in that championship game in Champaign in 2022.

Chicago Hope Academy 59, Springfield High 57: The Eagles led for most of the game and held off the Senators.

Springfield’s Noah Wade made 10 of 18 shots and scored a team-high 24 points to go with six rebounds.

Tyjuan Hunter delivered a game-best 28 points on 8 of 17 shooting and was 11-for-15 from the foul line for Chicago Hope.

Decatur Unity Christian 47, Southeast 41: Southeast trailed by 16 points at the half and fell short to the Lions.

Josiah Turner and Aaron Holman scored 12 points apiece and grabbed 10 and eight rebounds, respectively.

Dillon Clark had the hot hand for Decatur Unity as he went 6-for-8 from 3-point range, 8-for-10 from the foul line, and dropped a game-high 32 points, including six boards.

Decatur Eisenhower 67, Calvary 54: Calvary’s Luke Blackford posted a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Saints.

A 22-10 third quarter for Eisenhower opened up a 48-35 lead heading into the final period. Antoine Hunter was the other player in double digits for Calvary with 10 points.

Marcus Page led four Eisenhower players in double figures with 17 points on 8 of 13 shooting.

Tate Duckels/Dom Alepra/Sawyer Smith, Carlinville: Duckels buried three 3-pointers and led the way with 23 points, while Alepra and Smith followed with 22 apiece as Carlinville beat Gillespie 74-55 at the Macoupin County Tournament. Alepra finished with five 3s.

Drake Taylor/Kannon Jonas, Nokomis: Taylor scored 12 of his team-best 14 points in the second half and Jonas finished with 12 in Nokomis’ 48-42 win at Litchfield at the Rick McGraw Invitational. Jonas made a pair of 3-pointers and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line as NHS went 1-1 in pool play.

Brayden Ronco, Litchfield: His five 3-pointers paved the way for a game-high 19 points in Litchfield’s loss to Nokomis at the Rick McGraw Invitational.

Collin Etter, North Mac: Etter totaled a game-high 19 points, but North Mac was outscored 23-11 in the fourth period and lost to Bunker Hill 52-44 in the quarterfinals of the Macoupin County Tournament. Luke Alexander put in three 3-pointers and chipped in 13.

Cash Lynch, Pana: The junior led the team with 18 points in Pana’s 52-48 loss to Alton Marquette at the Rick McGraw Invitational. Easton Malisia nailed four 3-pointers and joined Madyx Angel with 12 points each.

Owen Schweppe/Jack Kaylor, Gillespie: The pair each scored 13 points apiece in the Miners’ 74-55 loss to Carlinville in the Macoupin County Tournament.

Nathan Matoush, Hillsboro: In the Rick McGraw Tournament, the Hiltoppers’ senior scored 22 points but Hillsboro fell 66-51 to Mattoon. Matoush’s teammate, Tony White, finished with 17 and connected on three 3-pointers.

Girls Basketball



Lilly Bandy, Staunton: The senior guard scored her 1,000th point during Staunton’s 71-31 win over Mount Olive in the quarterfinals of the Macoupin County Tournament. She finished with a team-high 14 points, followed by Jenna Staggs (13), Ele Feldmann (10) and Anna Machota (10).

Amari Vickery/Mia Brawner, Gillespie: Vickery and Brawner led four Gillespie players in double figures with 12 points apiece in the Miners’ 53-16 win over Bunker Hill at the Macoupin County Tournament. Delaney Taylor and Maggie Heyen added 10 points apiece.

Taylor Keirs, North Mac: Keirs made three 3-pointers, went 9-for-10 from the foul line and scored a career-best 20 points in North Mac’s 45-30 victory over Piasa Southwestern at the Macoupin County Tournament. Fynlee Hart finished with 12.

Lauren Bailey, Mount Olive: Bailey produced a game-high 18 points in Wildcats’ loss to Staunton at the Macoupin County Tournament.

Aubrey Vogel, Petersburg PORTA: The junior guard poured in 22 of her game-high 30 points in the second half and PORTA defeated Warrensburg-Latham 49-39. She knocked down three 3-pointers and went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Lovely Jackson, Lanphier: Her 28 points nearly outscored East St. Louis as the Lions cruised to a 61-30 win over the Flyers in the second annual MLK Day Classic opener.

Meadow Gribbins, Kincaid South Fork: The Ponies’ freshman scored 10 points as South Fork topped Moweaqua Central A&M 35-29.
