Decades ago, candy stores were common in the five boroughs. Usually, they sold more than just candy, peddling newspapers, headache remedies, umbrellas, and stationery. But the candy part was clearly the lure, and penny candy was a big thing among adults and children. Chocolate shops, soda fountains, and bodegas also sold a diverse range of candy.

The numbers of these places have been dwindling, though now candy seems to be undergoing a revival, and new types of shops and stalls selling candy have been invented. Here are some of our favorite candy stores.
