Led by a victory from Liam Keish, a versatile performance by Travon Buckner and other top individual finishes, the Wakefield Warriors placed second in the boys 6D North Region track-and-field championships.

Wakefield scored 59 points in the two-day meet Feb. 13-14. The first day’s events were held as scheduled in Prince George’s County, the second day being moved to Episcopal High School in Alexandria owing to weather. The South Lakes Seahawks won with 119.

Keish was Wakefield’s sole winner, tying for first in the 500-meter race in 1:07.31. He also anchored Wakefield’s eighth-place 4×200 relay. Buckner finished second in the triple jump, third in the high jump and seventh in the long jump.

Other top multiple finishers for Wakefield included Mikey Johnson with a second in the high jump and 10th in the 55 dash. Noah Gunville was third in the 3,200 and sixth in the 1,600 and Alex Epstein was fourth in the triple jump, eighth in the 55 hurdles and ran on a relay.

Wakefield’s Ben Chapuis was second in the long jump and ran on a relay, Chris Gilpin was fourth in the long jump, Jackson Gray was fourth in the pole vault, with Diego Fernandez fifth. Ricardo Perez was seventh in the 500, Leonardo Hoil 11th in the shot and Carter Lyons 11th in the 300.

The Washington-Liberty boys placed fourth in the meet and the Yorktown Patriots 11th.

For W-L, Carson Owens won the 55 dash (6.54), was third in the 300 and fifth in the long jump to lead the way, with Charles Gent second in the pole vault and Ian Crowley second in the 55 hurdles and sixth in the triple jump.

Ben Jahu was third in the high jump, Henry Brys took fourth in the 1,000, Nico Docena fifth in the 55 hurdles and triple jump, Brandon Kaplan seventh in the shot and Morgan Fritz eighth in the 3,200.

For Yorktown, Reid Dalley was third in the 1,600. Sam Hunter was sixth in the shot, Weston Marshall sixth in the 300 and Brendan Schmitt seventh in the 1,000.
