TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Washburn Rural girl’s soccer senior Kate Hinck is now the all-time leading goals scorer for the Junior Blues.

Hinck notched her 77th career goal on Monday at Hayden surpassing 2015 Washburn Rural grad Kaira Houser who tallied 76 goals. Hinck and the Junior Blues beat the Wildcats 7-0, the senior was responsible for four of the scores -- three came in less than 10 minutes.

A lot of people close to the program knew Hinck was close to breaking the record, but she did it in unexpected fashion.

She says this milestone comes thanks in part to all of the support.

”It’s the atmosphere, just all of our fans, everyone coming out to support us,” Hinck said. “My parents knew it was coming so they were really happy, but like Davey from Washburn reached out to me and all my club coaches.”

“We’ve never talked about a record,” Washburn Rural head coach Brian Hensyel added. “Kate’s never talked about a record. Nobody said ‘Hey, this is what we’re trying to accomplish.’ We just want to have a successful season. But her scoring increased as soon as our team was playing at its best, so it’s probably not a coincidence.”

Washburn Rural hosts Seaman for senior night on Thursday, marking the final game of the regular season. The match kicks off at 6:15 p.m.
