AMES, Iowa -- As conference tournament time and March Madness draw near, things are heating up in the Big 12. The No. 22 Arizona Wildcats travel to play the No. 9 Iowa State Cyclones today – Saturday, March 1. Tip-off is slated for 9 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

Two of the best offenses are going at it tonight. The Wildcats tie for 28th rank in points per game (81.6), while the Cyclones rank 45th in points (80.1).

Three different players average double-digit figures for the Wildcats, with Caleb Love leading all with 16.4 points per contest.

The Wildcats remained in the AP Top 25 and are coming off a win over Utah on Wednesday, but it’s fair to assume they’re still fuming from last Saturday’s loss to BYU.

There was controversary in the end of that game, in which Arizona’s Trey Townsend was called for a foul on BYU’s Richie Saunders, who then drained both free throws to make to put BYU up one, and eventually win.

The foul was questionable to folks from Arizona’s side, which led to their ninth loss this season. The student section loudly let their feelings be known, repeatedly yelling out an anti-Mormon chant.

On the other side of the ball, five different players average 10 or more points for Iowa State, with Curtis Jones leading the way with 16.9 points. This shows a balance within their offense in which everyone has a piece of the pie.

Despite only having seven losses, they are currently on a two-game losing skid after losing to Houston and Oklahoma State. If the Cyclones want to get back on the winning path and rise up the conference standings, winning tonight would definitely help.
