WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Students in the Wichita school district have a further extended weekend after classes were canceled for a second day in a row due to “ongoing winter weather and dangerous windchills during the time when students will be walking to school or waiting for the bus.”

Students have been out of school since Thursday of last week due to parent-teacher conferences, the weekend and Presidents Day. The district said WPS staff will be provided additional information early this evening.

Hutchinson students will also have a short week after the holiday followed by two snow days. The district said there will be no schools on Wednesday and no school on Friday, February 21, and Monday, February 24, for staff professional development days.

On Monday, Maize Public Schools canceled classes for both Tuesday and Wednesday saying they were working on a virtual professional development plan to help recover the hours.
