Less than two weeks after he celebrated a 100-meter dash state championship , Christopher “CJ” Bronaugh donned football gear to play in Windermere High’s May 22 spring football jamboree against perennial powers Edgewater and Kissimmee Osceola.

The pace has slowed since Bronaugh earned the Sentinel Varsity boys track and field Athlete of the Year honor by winning the Class 4A sprint title last month. But the whirlwind continues.

Bronaugh, rated by 247Sports as America’s No. 6 cornerback prospect in the 2026 graduating class, is in the middle of a four-week stretch of touring college campuses after fielding 26 football scholarship offers. He visited Florida the weekend of May 30 and Nebraska last week. He is scheduled to be on FSU’s campus this weekend, followed by a June 20 trip to Penn State.

Bronaugh is No. 3 on the Orlando area all-time 100 list with the 10.24-second time he ran to win at the Florida Relays. But his 10.34 to win the Class 4A state title looks to be the last time he shows his speed outside a football field. Bronaugh is on schedule to graduate early and arrive at the college of his choice next January. That means no track as a senior for the 6-1, 172-pound speedster. He said he is now focused on football with very little chance that he will run races in college.

“Right now, it’s all about summer football workouts (Monday through Thursday at WHS) and my college visits,” Bronaugh said last week.”I’m going to put on some more muscle and keep my speed up. It definitely helps to be fast on the field.”

Bronaugh committed to Nebraska in November. That was before his stock soared and offers piled up as he demonstrated game-changing speed in track. He ran 10.34 or faster six times this season and was undefeated with nine 100 wins and four 200 victories.

His state title run marked his 13th consecutive 100 victory — dating to last season when was the 1A state champ as a sophomore for Foundation Academy.

The only two Orange County sprinters to run faster are Marvin Bracy of Boone, who clocked a scalding 10.05 in 2012 and Jones High grad Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield, who ran 10.21 in 2013.

Bronaugh also anchored Windermere’s 4×100 relay, which set a school record with a 41.30 time and placed sixth in the Class 4A state meet. He ran an area-best 20.87 in the 200 for a third school record but did not run that event after cruising to a district title at 21.18.
