PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Look for a windy and dry start to the new week with fire danger especially high across parts of Arizona today through Wednesday. A trough of low pressure currently off the Oregon coast will move onshore today and push through the Great Basin slowly over the next few days. Winds will pick up across Arizona with the approach of this weather system today. In the Valley, look for southwesterly winds of 10 to 20 mph gusting to 30 mph both today and tomorrow. Much stronger winds are expected in the higher elevations of our state where Red Flag Warnings, Wind Advisories and even a High Wind Warning is in effect. The High Wind Warning is for far eastern Arizona. Winds in the high country are likely to be between 15 and 25 mph, gusting to 45 mph today. Stronger winds tomorrow are expected between 20 and 35 mph, gusting to 60 mph. Low relative humidity will also mean especially dangerous fire weather. The incoming trough will also bring cooler temperatures to the state. In the Valley, look for a high of 101 degrees today and 91 degrees tomorrow. We’ll see dry weather, but an even cooler day with a high of 88 degrees on Wednesday. Temperatures are likely to hover in the low to mid 90s from Thursday through next weekend.
