RV Winter Checklist!

RVs are an awesome way to travel while having the necessary amenities right at your fingertips! Now that we are headed towards winter, it is important to be aware of how to take care of your RV during winter conditions. Let's take a look at what you should be doing to keep your RV running smoothly as the weather gets colder and the snow starts to fall.

Drain the Water Supply

This is perhaps the most important item on your checklist, which is especially important if you plan on keeping your RV in storage during the colder months. This is because any water left behind will be prone to freezing and expanding if the RV is not regularly in use. This can then lead to structural issues such as bursting pipes and flooding. And no one wants to deal with that!

Apply RV Antifreeze

Add antifreeze to your plumbing system to prevent water from freezing or warping during the cold winter months. This is an important step to take whether you are using your RV during the winter or putting it in storage.

Invest in a Heated Hose

If you do plan on living in your RV during the winter months, a heated hose is a smart idea. This will make your life much easier, as you won't need to disconnect, drain, and reconnect the hose every night. This is a convenient way to prevent your hose from freezing, which would definitely be a pain to deal with.

Keep Your Propane Tanks Full

You don't want to lose power, especially because that would also mean losing heat. You should maintain full tanks, or have backup propane on hand, so everything can run properly and everyone stays comfy and cozy!

Remove Snow Often

Snow runs the risk of turning into ice, which can then open up seems in the roof when it melts. This can cause damage to appearance and function. In order to keep your RV in the best shape, be sure to clean off any snow as soon as you can.

Avoid Moisture and Mold

Be careful not to allow condensation to form. This could put your health at risk, as it increases the chance of mold. Make sure you have the proper ventilation in your RV, especially if you plan on cooking. Roof vents are a good way to allow for ventilation without wasting power.

This is not an extensive list of tasks, but it's certainly a good start for what things you need to be aware of. RVs are great, but you need to make sure you take the proper care of them year-round, whether you plan to keep them in storage or continue use.
