This spring, the Virginia Theological Seminary has a variety of courses open to the public that explore spirituality, ancient texts, and different facets of Christianity. Beginning in January you can take part in a few weeks of study at night and bond in fellowship with like-minded learners. View the list below to find a course that's right for you:

Spelling Doesn’t Count: Writing as a Spiritual Practice

The Psalms: Ancient Texts in Today’s Contexts

Registration Deadline: 1/23/18
When: Thursdays (1/31, 2/7, *no class on 2/14*, 2/21, 2/28) | 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost:$100

The Psalms contain some of the most ancient and beautiful texts in the Bible, with verses that range from happiness and victory all the way to anger and sadness. This course combines an overview of broader issues in the Book of Psalms along with a deep dive into individual psalms and taking a closer look at their poetry as well as their form and function. Register here.

Reclaiming the Jewishness of Jesus

Registration Deadline: 3/20/18
When: Tuesdays (3/26, 4/2, 4/9, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30) | 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost:$120

In this course, faith leaders from both the Jewish and Christian traditions will gather to discuss Jesus and his relationship to the Judaism of his day and ours at present. This course aims to open new dialogues between the two faiths to build more respect and understanding. By understanding the Jewishness of Jesus, we can learn more about his identity as well as our own within our faith. Register here.

 

To Be Holy Whole: A Lenten Journey into New Life

Registration Deadline: 3/20/18
When: Thursdays (3/28, 4/4, 4/11, *no class 4/18*, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9) | 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. 
Cost: $120

Dr. Timothy Sedgwick, Professor of Christian Ethics at VTS, will lead this class that uncovers the true heart of the Christian faith and how to become "whole" while seeking "holiness." This course includes presentations, reflections, and conversations on biblical texts and practices that offer invitations into a way of life that is holy and whole during the Lenten season. Register here.
