American Idol is coming to Denver on Friday. Don't get caught unprepared.

American Idol is coming to Denver this Friday. That's right, the next big sensation in pop music could be right here in the Mile High City! American Idol's audition process is famously stressful, with contestants having to sing in front of four judges. Not just four judges, but four celebrity judges! Thinking about screwing that up is enough to give anyone an ulcer, and on television no less!

So, as your friend, I have compiled some helpful tips to make all your American Idol auditions go as smoothly as possible, and all I ask in return is a mere 15 percent of all future earnings, including earnings not related to American Idol.

So ...

Wear a Costume

Costumes are fun and cool. So impress the judges with your creativity, in addition to your obvious singing talent. Being a pop star entails more than just hitting the notes, after all. A cool costume will let the judges know you have a keen sense of style, and good fashion sense goes a long way. But don't just do something "fashionable" because that will be "boring." Really take a chance here. Wear one of those T-Rex suits. The singing T-Rex is sure to go viral! Even if you don't make it past the audition stage, you could be the next William Hung, if that's something you're interested in.

Do a Wardrobe Change in the Middle of Your Audition

What makes a truly great pop star? Outfit changes. It seems that the likes of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry change their outfits after every single dang song. They are both rich and famous, with many adoring fans. (I'm sensing a pattern here ...) But you only get one song to impress the judges, so right after the first chorus run out of the room, change your outfit, and run back in and finish the song. The judges will be impressed that you have done your pop star homework, and really know what it takes to make it to the top.

But Don't Have a Wardrobe Malfunction

Bad. You are not Janet Jackson.

Sing Something Out of the Ordinary

Really hit the judges with something they're not expecting. Something in a foreign language, perhaps break out some Mongolian throat singing? I bet the judges have never heard that before, and with a music scene so saturated with the same types of songs all the time, it's important to stand out. If you are too shy to try Mongolian throat singing in front of the American Idol judges, or you don't know how, you should sing "Africa" by Toto because everyone loves that song, including, presumably, the judges.

Do a Randy Jackson Impression

Everyone in the United States has at one point turned to a friend and said, "I just wasn't feeling it, dog," in the voice of American Idol judge Randy Jackson, the longest-serving judge in the show's history-- although, he is no longer a judge. Do your impression of him in front of the judges. They're sure to love it, and once it has been determined that you watched American Idol back when it was cool, it will be smooth sailing to stardom.

Auditions will be held in the Convention Center (700 14th St.) on Friday, Sept. 14. You can register online ahead of time or in-person at the venue. Make sure to bring a photo of yourself and a valid form of ID.

Again, that's 15 percent of future earnings. Reading this article constitutes agreement.

Sam is really cool and you should be friends with him. He can't believe they let him write his own bio either! When Sam isn’t writing words, he’s usually reading books, playing sports, skiing, camping and rafting. Just kidding, usually he’s daydreaming. He lives in the woods.
