On September 28-30, Central City Opera and the Gilpin County Arts Association will celebrate their newest event, the 2018 Central City Plein Air Art Festival.
Admission is free to the general public and will take place within a three-mile radius of the Central City Opera House. This event plays host to 20 artists and their freshly-painted works will feature autumn landscapes and historic architecture from the Colorado mountain town. Festival artists will arrive from all over the country and will paint three paintings throughout the weekend. Visitors are invited to observe the artists, ask questions and enjoy the experience of Central City. Festival events will take place throughout the weekend and include a Eureka Street “Quickest” Draw Competition, Central City All-Access Tours and a professional Artist Demonstration by Festival Judge Lorenzo Chavez.

The Central City Plein Air Festival culminates in a public Exhibition and Sale on Sunday, September 30th from 5p.m.- 8p.m. at the Gilpin County Art Association’s Washington Hall Gallery where the 60+ freshly painted works will be on display and available for purchase. Festival Judge Desmond O’Hagan will select winners for Best in Show, 2nd Place, 3rd Place and Best Opera House Painting. A ticketed Preview Party and Sale of the Central City Plein Air Exhibition will take place from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. where guests will have first access to view and purchase the paintings on site. Preview Party Attendees will receive one complimentary drink ticket, enjoy hors-d’oeuvres, and visit with the artists to learn about their unique styles and techniques. Cost is $50 per ticket.
