Space dreams, rashes, metal mouth, breakthroughs are just a few of the vaccine after-effects.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday approximately 54.6 million people have been fully vaccinated and about 97.6 million people have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and with that, doctors are learning of some pretty interesting vaccine after-effects. CBS4 Medical Editor Dr. Dave Hnida noted the following temporary side effects:

  • "Moderna arm" or "COVID arm" includes an itchy rash down the entire arm about five to seven days after vaccination.
  • "Nickel mouth" or "metal mouth" tastes very metallic, like you have coins in your mouth within minutes to a day or so after vaccination.
  • Vivid "space" dreams (think hover crafts, flying to the moon) that interrupt sleep cycles.

Dr. Hnida notes: "I think the bottom line, if you have anything weird going on, the most important thing to know is you're not alone and they are generally not of great concern. Certainly if you do something unusual and you are worried about it, talk to your doctor for more information."

The Epoch Times reports additional vaccine breakthrough cases in Washington where 100 fully vaccinated people have tested positive for COVID-19, as well as other states reporting a small number of COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases in Idaho, South Carolina, Florida, and Minnesota.

Reports from Yale Medicine note all three vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer-BioNTech, Johnson & Johnson) have an efficacy between 72%-95% depending on which vaccine you receive.

"Finding evidence of vaccine breakthrough cases reminds us that, even if you have been vaccinated, you still need to wear a mask, practice socially distancing, and wash your hands to prevent spreading COVID-19 to others who have not been vaccinated," Umair Shah, Washington's secretary of health said.

With over 330 million people living in the United States and with not only a quarter of them fully vaccinated, yet, we still have a ways to go. Is the push for herd immunity worth the after-effects and the possibility of a vaccine breakthrough worth it? Let us know what you think in the comments.
