The Emporia High softball team was swept by Topeka High on Senior Night Tuesday at Peter Pan Park. Topeka High won the first game, 4-1, and completed the sweep with an 11-1 victory. In game one, Emporia High had a 1-0 lead through one inning with Molly Williams scoring on a wild pitch. Topeka High responded with two in the third and one each in the fourth and fifth. Atlyn Heffron went 2-for-3 at the plate for EHS, while Alivia Barrett went the distance, allowing four runs on five hits and three strikeouts. In game two, Topeka High scored two in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth before EHS got on the board when Ryane Howe scored on a wild pitch. Topeka High added one in the fifth and two in the seventh. The Lady Spartans recorded just two hits in the game. Barrett allowed 11 runs and 11 hits and one strikeout in a complete game effort. Head coach Tommy McClure said it was a tale of two different games. Emporia High (6-14, 0-8 Centennial) hosts the Emporia Softball Classic Friday and Saturday at Peter Pan Park. The Lady Spartans open the classic at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Wichita West.
