PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The first triple-digit day of the year could arrive today with a forecast high of 100 degrees in the Valley. If we reach that benchmark, it would be the earliest 100 degree day on record for Phoenix! It’s also almost 20 degrees above normal for this time of year in the Valley.

Today is a First Alert Weather Day for record heat.

Temperatures will also be 15 to 20 degrees above normal in the high country of our state today as an unseasonably strong ridge of high pressure sits over our region. A weak trough of low pressure swinging by to the north will cool temperatures slightly tomorrow and Thursday.

A stronger and colder low pressure system is forecast to move through the region later this week. While most of the energy and moisture will stay to the north of Arizona, winds should increase across the state Thursday through Saturday, peaking on Friday.

The trough will also bring cooler air to the state and a bit of cloud cover. Look for high temperatures in the upper 80s on Friday, low 80s on Saturday and mid to upper 80s Sunday and Monday. No rain is expected for the next week at least.
