TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - These next two days will be about as extreme as you can get: 80s today with gusts 30-40 mph, 30s and 40s tomorrow with gusts 45-60 mph and snow!! The strong winds combined with the snow that will lead to near blizzard like conditions with an actual blizzard in north-central KS due to the fact there will be a higher probability of snow accumulation. The good news is Thursday is the first day of spring and we begin a nice spring like pattern Thursday through next week. Winds will continue to be a factor everyday with the exception of Thursday and Saturday with gusts at least 25 mph the other days. This will lead to elevated fire danger concerns so outdoor burning is not recommended as any fires that develop will get out of control quickly. As of now precipitation tonight into tomorrow will range from 0.10″-0.40″ so not a lot but anything will certainly help. Today: Increasing Clouds this morning with some partial clearing shortly before sunset. Highs in the low-mid 80s. Winds S 15-25, gusts up to 35 mph. Tonight: Mix develops after 3am in north-central KS. Lows will drop in the mid 30s in north-central KS but staying in the 50s along and east of HWY 75. Winds S/W 20-30, gusts up to 45 mph. Tomorrow: Temperatures in the 30s and 40s through the morning with 30s by the afternoon. Rain/snow mix eventually changes to all snow but because temperatures remain above freezing, limited accumulation will occur. If it comes down at a heavier rate that may change so stay tuned. Winds W/NW 20-35, gusts around 60 mph. Thursday will start out below freezing before warming in the mid-upper 50s by the afternoon with sunshine and winds only around 10 mph. Winds increase again on Friday with gusts around 30-35 mph and highs in the low-mid 60s. The low-mid 60s for highs continue this weekend into early next week. There is uncertainty in how warm it will get for the 2nd half of the work week but at the very least it’ll be seasonal. Today’s Storm Spotter training class is at 6:30pm in Belleville in Republic County. Click here for the full schedule which includes Marshall County tomorrow that may be postponed due to the snow storm tomorrow so stay tuned.
