Starbucks' Peppermint Mocha Copycat Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • For the Mocha Syrup
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup water
    • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • For the Peppermint Syrup
    • 1 cup water
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • Individual Coffee Serving
    • 2 teaspoons peppermint syrup
    • 1 tablespoon mocha
    • 4 ounces espresso or strong coffee
    • 8 ounces 2% milk steamed
    • 2 tablespoons whipped cream
  • Optional
    • 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup
    • 1 teaspoon peppermint candy crushed

Instructions:

  1. Combine the water and sugar in a medium-sized pot. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat and continue stirring.
  2. Remove the mixture from the heat and then add the peppermint extract. Once it has cooled down, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator. To help preserve the syrup, add one teaspoon of vodka before using. This way, the syrup can last for up to four weeks.
  3. To prepare the mocha, combine sugar and cocoa powder in a saucepan. Add water and stir until boiling. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Store in a sealed container in the fridge.
  4. To make steamed milk, first heat milk in the microwave for about 30 to 45 seconds, and then aerate it by placing it in a glass jar with a lid and shaking it for 5 to 10 seconds to work in some air bubbles.
  5. Pour the syrups into a coffee mug, followed by the coffee. Add the steamed milk. Top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup.
