Tell us something we don't know already, right? U.S. News and World Report just named the 15 best small towns in the U.S. for a vacation destination, and four of Colorado's popular mountain towns made the list.

Enough with the big-name theme parks and large, exhausting cities. U.S. News and World Report set out to name the best places to plan a vacay, particularly if you're into small-town charm. Only towns with fewer than 100,000 people were considered for the honor, earning bonus points for ample amounts of restaurants, attractions, and character. Breckenridge, one of Colorado's premier mountain towns, ranked No. 2 on the U.S. News list of "15 Best Small Towns to Visit in the USA," behind Sonoma, CA (No. 1). Steamboat Springs landed at No. 7, Aspen at No. 10, and Vail at No. 14. No other state made the list as many times as Colorado. (We're feeling the love, U.S. News!). Other towns that made the list include Asheville, NC; Park City, UT; and Jackson Hole, WY.

Breckenridge, No. 2

We can't help but notice that it's actually been ranked on several U.S. News lists: Best Ski Destinations (No. 6), Best Places to Visit in the USA (No. 13), and World's Best Places to Visit (No. 18). In short, no matter how you look at it, Breckenridge is just an all-around fantastic place.

Steamboat Springs, No. 7

We agree with all of that, but if you haven't been to Steamboat for their annual Hot Air Balloon Rodeo (July 8-9), you're seriously missing out. It's pure magic.

Aspen, No. 10

[caption id="attachment_18249" align="aligncenter" width="936"]mountain towns Image courtesy of Expedia[/caption] "Straight out of a snow globe" is how U.S. News describes Aspen. This high-end charming mountain town has captured the attention of vacationing celebrities for decades. It's also made its way onto multiple "Best" lists: Luxury Destinations, Romantic Getaways, and Winter Family Vacations, among others.

Vail, No. 14

[caption id="attachment_18252" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]mountain towns Image courtesy of Facebook[/caption] Vail features "jagged peaks, miles of slopes, and perfect powder," according to the list. In addition to skiing, however, Vail is a charming place with plenty to keep you and the family occupied, year-round. Trust us!
Coloradans are truly lucky to have so many great vacation destinations in our own backyard! Which one is your favorite? Do you think there's another Colorado town that should have made the list? Tell us in the comments.
