We can all rest easy now—the Met Gala in 2021 is not only back on but it's giving us not one gala, but two!

If you've always been a fan of the uber avant-garde fashion appearances at the Met Gala, then hold on to your knock-off Gucci fedora because the Met Gala for 2021 is back on and will give us not only one gala, but two: September 13, 2021, and May 2, 2022. This year marks the 75th anniversary, featuring The Met exhibit, "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion" opening on September 18. 

The most recent Met Gala was held in 2019 and some memorable red carpet appearances were Lady Gaga disrobing as she made three wardrobe changes right down to her skivvies with designer Brandon Maxwell and Zendaya's Cinderella glow-up ball gown by designer Tommy Hilfiger. But if you've felt like you've already seen it all, can you imagine what the fashion and theatrics will be after a pandemic yearlong hiatus? If you've never paid attention to the Gala before, you may want to take notice this year. 

Newsflash for the fashion newbies: The annual Met Gala isn't just a red carpet strut. The event actually marks the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual costume exhibit, and this year, it celebrates its 75th anniversary.

Andrew Bolton, the curator of The Costume Institute, commented on this year's exhibit, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, "Over the past year, because of the pandemic, the connections to our homes have become more emotional, as have those to our clothes. For American fashion, this has meant an increased emphasis on sentiment over practicality. Responding to this shift, Part One of the exhibition will establish a modern vocabulary of American fashion based on the expressive qualities of clothing as well as deeper associations with issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion."

Somehow, I'm envisioning Lady Gaga showing up bundled in a SNUGGIE, hugging a body pillow, and showcasing a box of wine, but I may be taking the "pandemic, home, emotional" theme a bit too literal.

As for gala and costume exhibit No. 2—In American: An Anthology of Fashion examines the men and women's dress from the 18th century to present. Fingers crossed for parachute pants and leg warmers to bring it this year! 

Either way, we know we're always in for an entertaining fashion show when it comes to celebrities, fashion designers, Anna Wintour, and New York City. And I'm sure both galas in 2021 won't disappoint.
