LINCOLN — Carson Jasa dazzled in his first collegiate start, earning the victory in Nebraska baseball's 10-1 win over Wichita State on Tuesday night at Haymarket Park. Jasa, a 6-foot-7 freshman from Colorado, overpowered the Shockers, striking out eight in five shutout innings. He allowed two hits and walked one while throwing 73 pitches. Five Huskers ended up combining on the four-hitter. Tuesday marked the second time this season that Nebraska (6-8) has won consecutive games. The Huskers snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday by defeating Washington. The Huskers gave Jasa a lead to work with. NU got on the board right off the bat as a walk, an error and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the first. Cael Frost drove in a run with a groundout, but NU didn't do any more damage that inning. It stayed 1-0 before another Shocker error led to a three-run fifth. With Case Sanderson at second with one out, Cayden Brumbaugh reached on a throwing error by the pitcher as Sanderson scored. With two outs, Devin Nunez singled to left to bring in Brumbaugh and Frost for a 4-0 lead. Wichita got a run back when Lane Haworth homered to right to start the sixth, but the Huskers answered in the seventh when Brumbaugh led off with a double and scored on a Nunez ground ball. The Huskers put the game out of reach in the eighth against a wild Wichita relief staff. Nebraska scored runs on a sac fly, a hit by pitch and a wild pitch as the Shockers hit three batters and walked two in the inning. Nunez capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle. Nunez finished with five RBIs and had three of its eight hits. Sanderson and Brumbaugh scored three runs apiece. The Huskers and Shockers meet again at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
