PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man faces multiple felony charges in connection to a shooting that turned into a barricade situation in Phoenix on Sunday. Phoenix police were called about a shooting that happened around 12:40 p.m. near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road . When officers arrived at the scene, they learned a man was taken to the hospital by his family after being shot. Police said the man’s injuries were not life-threatening. Officers began investigating, and a barricade situation began as they talked to a neighbor they believed was involved in the shooting. Freddie Vela, 50, was later arrested, who police say admitted to the shooting. Vela first claimed self-defense; however, police say that statement did not match the crime scene. A firearm used in the shooting was also recovered. Vela was booked into jail on charges including aggravated assault and being a prohibited possessor. An investigation is ongoing.
