Get ready for breathtaking mountain views, charming small towns, and snow-packed activities that will allow you to enjoy all the winter season has to offer.

Let's look at the perfect Colorado winter road trip starting from Denver. It's time to dive into an unforgettable journey through Colorado's stunning winter landscape!

*Remember to check the weather and road conditions before heading out on your winter road trip. Traffic and hazards can get particularly crazy this time of year.

Colorado Winter Road Trip:

Starting Point: Denver

We won't be sticking around for too long! You may already live in Denver or be flying in from elsewhere and renting a car, as it's the easiest Colorado spot to get to. Since we are embarking on a winter road trip, we'll only make a quick stop here before heading up to the mountains. But don't worry; you can always come back to explore Denver in more depth later!

Stop 1: Georgetown

Georgetown is a quaint historic mining town around an hour from Denver, and it's perfect for a winter holiday vibe. While you're there, take a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. The Polar Express may not be real, but a winter ride on this train will give you all the magical vibes! Georgetown is also decorated beautifully for the holidays, making you feel like you stepped into a Hallmark movie.

Stop 2: Glenwood Springs

Glenwood Springs is about two hours from Georgetown, a charming town outside Aspen. While you're there, warm up in the Iron Mountain Hot Springs. If you're antsy to get your ski boots on before heading to our next stop, check out Sunlight Mountain Resort. For dinner, I highly recommend eating at CO Ranch House. You have got to try the Elk Quesadilla and the Duck Wings!

Stop 3: Aspen

Drive an hour from Glenwood Springs to reach Aspen, an iconic Colorado destination. This beautiful mountain town offers some of the country's best skiing and incredible scenery. Check out Aspen Mountain (AKA Ajax), which is right in town! However, if you're a beginner skier, you'd probably have more fun at Buttermilk or Snowmass, which are a little bit further from town. And if you don't like to ski, you'll still appreciate the town's charm and plethora of shops and restaurants. Plus, you can always just hang out at the après-ski parties.

Stop 4: Crested Butte

Now, we're going from a town that feels refined and bougie to one with a bit more laid-back charm. (Naturally, there's a lot of money in both towns). You need a little taste of it all! Crested Butte is an awesome mountain town with incredible skiing, great vibes, and gorgeous views. It's about a three-hour drive from Aspen, and it's totally worth it.

Stop 5: Telluride

We've made it to our final stop! Telluride is a little over three hours from CB. As it's around 6.5 hours from Denver, you'll want to spend some time here. It's pretty similar to Crested Butte, with a classic western mountain town aesthetic. Of course, the skiing in Telluride is also amazing. And as it's a bit further away, it doesn't tend to draw in tons of crazy crowds. If you're a big skier, you need to shred at T-Ride. If not, there are still plenty of fun winter activities, such as dog sledding and ice climbing. Plus, it's just a beautiful place to hang out! If you have little ones or want to feel like a kid again, go sledding in the Telluride Town Park. When the chill gets to you, swing by the Coffee Cowboy cart.

Get ready to explore Colorado's winter magic and enjoy breathtaking views, charming towns, and unforgettable experiences. Colorado has something for everyone, whether you're looking to hit the slopes, soak in hot springs, or take in the beauty of this winter wonderland. So grab your warmest coat and embark on the ultimate Colorado winter road trip!
