No doubt about it, Colorado is a hotbed of extreme sports and activities. Thankfully, many of these events use their drawing power to support and raise awareness to communities that provide special care and much-needed funds. If you have a few open weekends available, consider signing up for a heart-pumping event that supports a good cause.

Falcon Stadium, United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs

Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver

Get ready to put your legs and lungs to work by tackling 3,865 steps of the Mile High Stadium. Don’t be shocked to see firemen in full gear hiking up the steps as they are there to help support the cause, too! Climbers will then be treated to an on-field after party as well as a relaxing yoga session.
For those that don’t know, Cystic Fibrosis is a condition that primarily affects the lungs but also impedes the function of kidneys, pancreas, liver, and intestines. With your support, the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is able to fund medical research to find a cure for this disease.
August 10-11
Copper Mountain to Aspen/Snowmass

Boy howdy, this one’s a doozy and you’ll need a team of 12 or 6 to complete it! Formatted as a relay, each team member will run at least 11 miles (24 miles for a team of 6) over the course of two days and one night, starting at Copper Mountain and ending at Aspen/Snowmass. Runners will pass by ski towns, through the White River National Forest, and alongside the Colorado River. Participants can use this event to raise funds for a Ragnar charity partner or the charity of their choice.

Pearls of Hope is dedicated to providing patients undergoing chemotherapy with Hope Bags. Hope Bags are filled with items to add a bit more comfort to cancer-fighters on their journey to wellness.

Aspen/Snowmass
Prepare to get dirty, real dirty with this one. The Tough Mudder Full consists of 10 miles with over 20 obstacles to complete. If the idea of swimming through a slippery quagmire, carrying a tree trunk, crawling under barbed wire, or getting zapped with live wires excites you, see a psychiatrist this event is for you!
Tough Mudder is partnered with Team Rubicon, the only nonprofit disaster response organizations that mobilize veterans to assist their communities in the event of a natural disaster. Participants can also join a fundraising team and choose from over 100 charities affiliated with Tough Mudder which in return grants you free admission to the event.
September 15
Colorado Renaissance Festival, Larkspur
If Tough Mudder didn’t fully satisfy your lust for getting dirty, you can head over to Larkspur and jump over flames, slog through mud pits, Army-crawl through trenches, and many other obstacles that will have you second-guessing your sanity. Participants are encouraged to become a St. Jude Hero by starting a fundraising team to benefit this incredible organization that helps so many children. To date, Warrior Dash has raised over 14 million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. How about helping them get to 20 million in the near future?

The WINGS Foundation provides therapy and resources for adult men and women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). Studies have shown that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men have suffered CSA. Funds raised at this 5K helps WINGS give a safe space for affected individuals to heal from this trauma.
