Have a Mele Kalikimaka party!

First things first, push play and enjoy the soothing voices of Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters.

Okay, now that we've gotten you in the mood for a luau, let's talk about putting a tropical spin on your Christmas party. I know it may seem strange having a warm-weather-themed party in the throes of winter, but since many Colorado transplants came from states that typically have high temperatures in December (*cough* Texas, California *cough*) it's not entirely a bad idea.

Outfits & Decor

Give your guests a break from heavy winter coats and wool sweaters and encourage Hawaiian shirts, floral dresses, grass skirts, and coconut bras and treat them to a tropical getaway. Decorations like palm trees, tiki masks, or hibiscus garlands are a perfect choice to turn your home into mini Maui.

Food

Hawaiians are well-known for their hospitality. Name another state that drapes visitors with flowers upon arrival. Go ahead, I'll wait. Not only is Hawaii warm in temperature and spirit, but also possesses a cuisine that any palate can appreciate, particularly fish lovers. Having catered sushi platters for your guests to nibble on to their heart's content or a poke buffet ensures your guests enjoy a fresh and healthy meal. Since pork is a mainstay in Hawaiian fare, a spread of pulled pork sliders are an excellent choice as well.

Drink

One of the best parts of a Hawaiian-themed party is without a doubt the drink menu. Mai Tais, Blue Hawaiians, and Bay Breezes are not only delightfully sweet but also add extra color to the whole event.

Music

As for music, Don Ho, Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, and the Blue Hawaii soundtrack are excellent choices to play in the background.

We've got a few months of snow and cold ahead of us, why not make one day full of aloha this Christmas?

Need a delicious option for a healthy diet? Try a poke bowl!
