Think the nugs will be as popular as the sandwich?
Popeyes is adding something new to the menu: chicken nuggets. The new nuggets have the same flavors as the popular sandwich, minus the bread. When the chain introduced a new chicken sandwich two years ago, it was so popular that stores ran out (and thus, began the Great Chicken Sandwich War). Hopefully, this time Popeyes can avoid that same scenario.
The nuggets will launch nationwide and in Canada on Tuesday, July 27, but they may now be available in some markets.
Popeyes chicken will have a crunchy batter, similar to the batter on its famous fried chicken and chicken tenders. The company hopes to bring a different experience to diners used to the soft textured nuggets found at other fast-food restaurants.
“We have invested the time to perfect a product that leverages our classic techniques and Louisiana flavors that will change how people think about and experience chicken nuggets. We think we did it again with chicken nuggets,” said Amy Alarcon, Vice President of Culinary Innovation, Popeyes. “Now we can offer this famous recipe in pieces with the launch of Popeyes nuggets.”

Popeyes has four new sauces that can be paired with the nuggets, blackened ranch, buttermilk ranch, wild honey mustard, and sweet heat. Guests can also choose from Popeyes' regular menus sauces like Mardi Gras mustard and bayou buffalo sauce. Nuggets can be purchased in boxes of 8, 12, 24, 36, or 48, starting at $3.99.
