The next time you're craving some Italian food and cannolis, head to The Italian Place to get your fix.

Right in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, you'll find the unassuming brick building that houses The Italian Place. It's a quaint little eatery that offers authentic imported meats and cheeses in hefty, craveable subs. If you're closer to Mosaic, they have a second location there, too.

You'll have to order online, at the self-service kiosk, or at the window. Dining is still outdoors for now, and you can order for takeout or delivery. Sit down to enjoy your meal at several small tables and benches scattered around the restaurant. The Italian flag-draped patio is the perfect place to savor your food.

We had the tuna sub and the specialty sub called the "Eva", which came stuffed with mortadella and salami. It was perfectly dressed with provolone, lettuce, tomato, onions, and banana peppers for a fresh, crunch that complemented the rich cold cuts. They have everything from Chicken Parmesan and Nonnie's Meatball subs, as well as toast with Nutella or ham and cheese.

Dessert was a pair of perfect cannoli with crisp shells and freshly piped cream. Make sure you get these if you have a sweet tooth!

The next time we go, pizza will definitely be something we try. They just rolled out 8-inch personal pizzas, which would be great with one of their delicious subs.

Whether you try them out in Mosaic or Old Town Alexandria, The Italian Place is definitely worth a visit. You'll find yourself craving their sandwiches before you know it.
