Spice up your spice cabinet with this Mexican-inspired seasoning blend!

I've been doing my part to "flatten the curve" by staying home, with the exception of some doctor's appointments. But, there were some "essential" food items we needed that my husband couldn't find when he went grocery shopping after work. So, I braved the (outside) lines at Trader Joe's the other day and scored their new "Everything But the Elote" Seasoning Blend in the process!

I have seen this trendy seasoning all over my Instagram feed and knew I needed to try it. Unfortunately, for those lactose-intolerant (like my dear husband), it does contain cheese. For those that can handle dairy, or like to throw caution to the wind, keep reading.

"Throughout Mexico and in cities across the U.S., street vendors sell mouthwatering, well-seasoned corn on the cob known as Elote," explains Traderjoes.com. Taking a cue from their popular Everything But the Bagel Sesame Seasoning Blend, "Trader Joe’s Everything But the Elote Seasoning Blend is 'Everything' you might find on elote—chile pepper, Parmesan cheese, chipotle powder, cumin, dried cilantro, sea salt, etc.—minus the corn itself."

They also added cornflour and cane sugar, to complete this delicious blend.

I was so excited to try this creative seasoning that I threw it on my macaroni and cheese as soon as I got home. While I'm sure that's not what it was originally intended for, it was still pretty good. The chile and chipotle powder added a nice subtle kick.

I eventually tried it on some ground chicken, and it was equally delicious. We usually season our meat with the above-mentioned Everything But the Bagel blend or their Everyday Seasoning, both of which are great, but it's nice to change it up every once in a while.

At only $2.49 for a 2.3-ounce jar, it's quite the steal. While I'm not sure I would use it every day, it's definitely a nice addition to my spice cabinet. It also has me dreaming of summer where I can hopefully grab some authentic Mexican street corn at a local fair.

Have you tried Trader Joe's Everything But the Elote Seasoning Blend yet? If so, what did you try it on? Did you love it, or was it a hard pass? Let us know in the comments!
