As we enter the summer season, it's time to start planning the next few months! I loved making summer bucket lists when I was younger, and this year, I'm sharing one with you all for must-do summer activities in Colorado. Whether you're able to do it this year or later, these are some things you need to do at least once during a Colorado summer!

Colorado Summer Fun to Add to Your Bucket List:

Ski St. Mary's Glacier

Skiing doesn't have to stop when the lifts do! St. Mary's Glacier, about an hour from Denver, is always there. You'll need to hike up it, but it's definitely worth it. Plus, a little extra cardio isn't a bad thing. As mountain bikers say, you gotta earn your turns! Throw on your swimsuit or other summer attire and clip on the skis for a really unique experience. I love how this blurs the line between the seasons and their associated activities, something that's really special about our state as a whole. Just make sure you're safe, and this is something you feel comfortable doing!

Go to a Rockies Game

Even if you don't care for baseball, a Rockies game is a quintessential summer experience. The tickets tend to be cheap, and it's a great excuse to drink a Coors and take in the view.

Go Wildflower-Peeping

In the autumn, there's leaf peeping, and in the summer, we have wildflowers. (I'm not sure if people actually call it wildflower peeping, but I just did). There are plenty of places to check out near Denver, but you should also take the trip to Crested Butte during their annual Wildflower Festival. It is the wildflower capital of Colorado, after all!

Go Camping

I go camping multiple times a year, and it's so much fun. I'm really excited for the camping season to start back up. If it's not a regular part of your summer schedule, I'd recommend trying it at least once. You may opt for a campground with amenities such as bathrooms for a more comfortable experience, or go ahead and try the more primitive camping for something a little more immersive. Just be sure you have all of the necessary gear and are prepared for any conditions or elements!

Take a Road Trip

Colorado is home to some of the country's most scenic drives, and summer is the perfect time to take a road trip. From mountain passes to winding canyons, there's always something new and breathtaking to discover on a Colorado road trip.

Enjoy Water Activities

Those hot summer days require cooling off. Although we don't live by the ocean, there are still options for fun in the water. Grab your tube or raft and head to a lake or river for some fun and excitement. You can even rent a kayak to make things a bit more active. If you're up for something extra adventurous, try whitewater rafting.

Attend a Summer Festival

Summer in Colorado means it's festival season! From food and music festivals to art and cultural celebrations, there's something for everyone. Check out this list of Colorado summer festivals for inspo!

Visit a National Park

Colorado is home to four beautiful National Parks—Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Summer is a great time to explore these parks and take in the stunning scenery.

Go to a Red Rocks Show

Red Rocks season is back! The concerts at this venue are so cool, and if you have yet to go to one, you need to add it to the list. Red Rocks also hosts other events, such as Yoga on the Rocks or Film on the Rocks, which are incredible.

Ride the Roller Coasters at Elitch Gardens

With a slogan like "Not to See Elitch's is Not to See Denver," how could you not visit this amusement park in the city? It's supposed to be moving out soon, so I'd recommend going while it's still in its unique location. I've been a few times, and the rides are actually a lot of fun.

Visit a Farmers' Market

Support local farmers and businesses while enjoying fresh produce, baked goods, and other unique goods at one of the many farmers' markets throughout Colorado. It's a great way to connect with the community and try some delicious, locally sourced food.

Go Hiking

Hiking is one of my favorite summer activities. From easy nature walks to challenging summit hikes, there's a trail for every skill level. Just make sure to take proper precautions and bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

Summertime in Colorado is filled with endless adventure and beauty, making it a season to truly cherish and make the most of. So, grab your sunscreen, your water pack, and your sense of adventure, and make this Colorado summer one for the books!
