Lapland is the winter wonderland of your dreams. The gorgeous landscape is taken to the next level with the enchanting Northern Lights, which stun in the winter. Can you imagine anything more romantic than staring up at the beautiful lights in the sky while holding your partner close? Winter activities in Lapland include skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. The area is also filled with free-roaming reindeer, and you can even go for a sleigh ride. Lapland is truly magical!

Chamonix, France

Chamonix is an iconic mountain destination! France already has a reputation for being romantic, and Chamonix is an awesome getaway, especially for skiers and snowboarders. Those who have skied in France say it blows American resorts out of the water. It's pretty hard to believe since there are so many incredible mountains in the States, but that means Chamonix is an absolute must-visit for hardcore shredders. Chamonix is set against the backdrop of the Mont Blanc massif, an incredible mountain range in the Alps that touches France, Italy, and Switzerland. Dine at the Michelin star-awarded Albert 1er for a delicious taste of the local region. The menu changes seasonally to reflect the freshest ingredients available.

Aspen, Colorado

It's impossible to leave Aspen off this list. My boyfriend and I have been there together multiple times we always have an amazing time. It's one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and perfect for a romantic getaway. You can also stay in Glenwood Springs, another cute mountain town less than an hour away with more affordable lodging. With that money you saved you can ball out on the iconic après at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro at the Aspen Highlands resort. Get a taste of the European alpine culture, without leaving the States! With delicious food options, champagne, and a DJ, all on the mountain with insane views, this costly après is an awesome experience to have with your partner. I have yet to go (I repeat, it's expensive), but it's definitely on the list! You can only get to it if you're skiing or boarding and you should be at least an intermediate rider, so we're going for very exclusive vibes here.

Or, for a different experience, you could splurge even more on a snowcat dinner, where you will be transported to and from Cloud Nine on a snowcat. The cuisine is described as Swiss and Continental. The town of Aspen itself is a great place to walk around and has plenty of fun shopping, art galleries, and dining options.

Hallstatt, Austria

For a getaway straight out of a fairy tale, head to Hallstatt. It has it all: mountains, charming homes, and a beautiful lake. This town is so picturesque it almost doesn't seem real. Whether you're simply taking in the stunning sites or decide to do something active like skiing or snowshoeing, you're going to have an incredible time. For a truly unforgettable experience, look for lakeside lodging.

Banff, Canada

Banff, located in Alberta, Canada, is another gorgeous lakeside getaway. This resort town is situated within Banff National Park. Does it get any better than that? While I've been to Toronto as a kid, I've been dying to explore more of Canada. There are multiple ski resorts in the area, Ski Norquay, Sunshine Village, and Lake Louise Mountain Resort. If skiing isn't for you, you may enjoy ice skating at Lake Louise for a really special Canadian experience. Ice skating hand-in-hand with your lover is as adorable and romantic as it gets! Dine 2,900 ft. above Banff at Sky Bistro, "A Dining Sanctuary in the Sky," for Canadian cuisine and incredible views.

There is so much to see in the world, and the winter season is a particularly magical time! These are just a few fantastic options for an unforgettable romantic winter getaway. I've definitely added a few to my must-visit list during my research. Whether you enjoy the thrill and athleticism of winter sports or prefer a more relaxing trip taking in the views, these destinations have something for you! I'm personally here for all of it.

BRB, daydreaming about cuddling up with my boyfriend under the northern lights. So go ahead and start planning your romantic winter getaway now. Remember to bring your coat!
